Thirty Nine?! Are You Sure?!

I know I said I was going to post Jim's artwork, but first I must tell you about my birthday!  Yes, it was my 39th birthday on Friday, and NO, I was not excited about turning 39.  At all.  I'm not sure why it was so monumental to me, but it just was.  How the H did I get to be 39?!?  I mean that cannot be right?!  I don't feel 39, and I'm not sure I act 39 either.  Hmmm... how do 39 year olds act anyway?  I might need to know that.  Anywhooo... apparently 39 year olds have trouble getting to the point.

My birthday started when I stumbled my weary, half asleep 39 year old butt into the shower at 5:30am to get ready for work.  Let's just say I already was not happy.  Mid shower, still soapy, I decided I needed to shave my armpits.  The razor had a clear covering on it, which you slide off.  As I slid it, I caught my thumb on the blade.  Did you just cringe?  Yep, me too.  There really wasn't much blood, but it hurt like a (not nice word I can't write on my blog because my parents read this).  Strangely, things started to go black.  I recognized the feeling because I once knocked myself out in my own closet, (clumsy people have a lot of stories).  I half fell out of the shower, onto the floor, and tried to focus on breathing normally and not passing out, while singing myself a song.   "Happy Birthday to me... Happy Birthday to me... I almost passed out in the shower... Ouchie, Ouchie, Ouchie!"

So that was the beginning of my birthday, but mid afternoon, it started looking up.  First, my parents came over to watch Dylan, and brought cupcakes.

Then, Jim and I left for our overnight trip!  My husband, the one who never plans anything EVER, made us reservations at a Bed & Breakfast in Ohio!  You have no idea how much I needed it.  We drove about an hour out of the way, when my non-planner missed our exit, but I didn't even care, I was so excited.
We got to talk uninterrupted the whole way there, and during dinner, so I was already loving it.

We arrived, and the serene location, with a view of Atwood Lake was perfect.  It was the first time I ever stayed at a B&B.  I had this idea that it would be weird, living in a house with a bunch of strangers.  I thought I would hear them, and they would hear me, and we would have to make awkward small talk at breakfast and when we passed each other in the halls.  It wasn't like that at all!  I have never stayed in a place that was so quiet!  Yes, there were 7 other couples staying there, but other than saying "Hello" at breakfast, we didn't really see them.  When we arrived, we sat in a swing and talked some more and watched the sunset.  The part I really want to remember was Jim turning on the water for the jacuzzi tub, and it running for a really, really long time, before I finally went over and said, "Jim!  I think it is draining!"  That whole time, the stopper wasn't down, and the water had been draining out.  Then, we were out of hot water!  (We figured it out eventually).  Jim even brought me snacks and sangria to enjoy while we were in the jacuzzi.  (I don't know who this guy is who plans, but I like him.  Actually, I love him.  A LOT!)

The room had a ginormous king bed that you had to jump up into.  I am now ruined, and campaigning for a kind sized bed of our own.

Saturday, we were served a delicious breakfast in the sun room, with a view of the lake.  Then, we went to the beach, and besides swimming a bit, spent the afternoon under a tree, reading a book, talking, and relaxing.  Bliss!  (I did manage to step on a bee, "Happy Birthday to me... Happy Birthday to me... Ouchie, Ouchie, Ouchie!), but we won't talk about that.

We had dinner at "The Lighthouse", a restaurant on the lake, with great food and a nice view.

I arrived home relaxed and rejuvenated.  Hope that lasts at least a couple days!  Oh, and I have an idea for this 39th year that will hopefully make turning 40 less traumatic than I imagine it.  Stay tuned for that!
Oh, and if you know how a 39 year old is supposed to act, let me know... so I can act exactly the opposite of that!

Your husband is AWESOME! I am so, so glad that he treated you to a night away and that you had such a relaxing time! (And I am sorry that a cut finger and a bee sting interupted that bliss!) Happiest Birthday again my dear friend!

Happy Belated Birthday! Oddly, I was quite unplugged while at BlogHer so I missed this.

It sounds like a wonderful time. When we had lunch I thought you didn't act a day over 32!

I don't feel 33 either (almost 34) :( It's amazing how fast the years go by. *sigh* Sounds like a great birthday! Glad you had so much fun!

oh, so glad you had a lovely birthday in spite of the ouchies!

my sister's theory is to refer to herself as the next 5 up for four years (she has currently been 50 for a couple already) so that by the time she gets there, it feels like nothing. not sure i like that theory though... :-)
