His First Football Injury

After watching the Steelers win today, Dylan decided he wanted to play football with Daddy.

The result?

Chair: 1
Dylan: 0

He ran into a chair, face first, but, he's still smiling!  For the picture, at least.  I thought it would be better for the picture if he looked a little more pathetic, but what can I say?  He's trained to smile when a camera appears!

For all you Steelers fans, where Jim works this week, they were doing a photo shoot with Jerome Bettis.
Apparently he loves chocolate chip cookies, so they wanted to get some for him, and asked Jim if he knew of anyplace that had good ones.  Jim replied, "Well, my son LOVES the chocolate chip cookies at X", so they got them from X.  I heard Jerome ate 8 of them.

What Happened Last Night

Last night we celebrated my dad's 70th birthday.  On the way to meet my parents at Olive Garden for dinner, we passed the car of a Steelers fan.  They had their window down, and were waving a Steelers flag, shouting, and beeping the horn.  Jim remarked, "If we lose this game, they're going to need to put Prozac in the Pittsburgh drinking water tomorrow".

This morning, when I woke Dylan up, we were talking.
"We had fun with Mi-Mi and Bubba last night, didn't we?", I asked.
"Sure did!", he smiled.
"Too bad the Steelers lost the game".
His face crumpled, and he honestly looked like he was gonna cry. "They did?!  But, Bubba said they were gonna win!"
"Well, Dylan, sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose".
"Yea, that's just what happens".

So, there you go Pittsburghers.  Kids have a way of putting things in perspective, don't they?
But, it wouldn't hurt to drink lots of water today.

A Day To Remember

My grandfather turned 96 yesterday. Actually, I think when you are that age, it should be "MY GRANDFATHER TURNED 96 YESTERDAY!!!" That's a big number, and the proper amount of enthusiasm is necessary. As a special present, he got to watch the Steelers win! (singing) "Pittsburgh's going to the Superbowl!"

See that smile? Can you feel the enthusiasm? Can you hear the laughter? Someday, when my grandfather is no longer with us, I think that is what I will remember most about him - his laugh. He loves to laugh, and he laughs often. Yesterday, he laughed A LOT. The cause of the laughter? My crazy kid, that my grandfather adores. I think seeing Dylan might have been his favorite part, even topping the Steeler game! When he was opening his gifts, Dylan had to help. Dylan opens gifts with gusto - RRRIIPP! Watching the two of them - my heart was full. It definitely topped the game for me.

I Smell Beer...And Testosterone

My wonderful husband scored us two free tickets to the Steelers football game today, (Thank you, Monica!). Two free tickets only four rows back behind the team, baby! (You must add the word baby to everything for emphasis when discussing football - apparently). Try not to cry with envy, you fellow Pittsburghers, it's very unflattering.

I don't get to go to games often, but when I do, I am always incredibly amused - drunk guys and football, is there anything funnier? Us Steeler fans, we are passionate! I honestly didn't see a single soul who didn't have some sort of Steeler gear - jersies, shirts, and crazy hats... scarves, terrible towels, n'at. Well, I take that back, there was a blond chick wearing a fur, and high heels. I repressed the urge to scream "BOOOOO!!", as I looked around for some red paint. This is a football game, honey. You don't belong here.

There was quite possibly the only Browns fan sitting right next to us. He arrived drunk, and he got, well, drunker. He was too drunk to realize that he might want to keep a low profile, so he kept screaming and jumping around when the Browns did anything good. I was impressed with the Steeler fans around us. No one cursed him, or threw beer on his head, (I was waiting). He did manage to spill half a cup of beer on himself because he just couldn't get the hang of drinking out of a cup, I guess. That was really funny, or as Jim put it "You were laughing your ass off!" Check out this yahoo...This is him when he was putting a hex on our players and talking in tongues.

I am very thankful that the guy didn't puke on us.

Then there was this guy...

That, there, is Jesus, complete with the long flowing locks, robe, and a sign that read "Believe - Be Loud". Nice of him to take time out of his busy schedule to support the team. We appreciate that. He was pretty fired up, too.

The game was really, really close, (31-28), which made it all the more exciting, and we won, so it couldn't have been any better. Well, it could have been warmer, and not rained the whole second half, but whatever. The best conversation of the game didn't even involve football.

Jim: "Jen, why didn't you insist I bring my gloves?"
Me: "Hey, it's not my fault. I got them for you". (They were in the winter box - Jim didn't know where it was). "You decided not to wear them".
Jim: "You know I never know what I am doing".

Oh, man, why didn't I have my cellphone on Video for that? Crap! I love football. GO STEELERS!!!
